Blog #3: Google Part 2

What?
I am learning about creating a website for my students and parents to see. The assignments include creating a classroom site and grading myself with the rubric.

So What?
Wow, I never knew how to create a site let alone that it was so simple. Knowing how to use Google sites is beneficial for me. It helps me as a teacher be able to communicate with my parents, students, and colleagues without the hassle of trying to find time to talk to them. It allows them to see what is going on in my classroom and is a great communication tool. I believe we are using Google Sites to make things easier for us as teachers. I think it is also being used to help parents be more involved with the child's education. Setting up and using Google Sites helps me to learn how to be more organized. I can use Google Sites with any of my classes and it could be used as a way to communicate with my other classmates. It allows them to see what I have planned. In addition, when I do my student teaching, it will help my teacher I am working with as well as my students know what is expected and what is going on.

Technology and Google Sites is the new way of teaching and communicating with the parents and students. This type of technology is something that will save me time and will help keep me organized. Being able to use Google Sites also indicates I am capable of using other types of technology. For example, the resources and tools use other links and websites. In order for my students to use this information, I need to be able to post it to my site. Colleagues of mine can get ideas from my site as well as coordinate their plans with what my 4th grade class will be doing.

Now What?
This type of technology will affect my future students in many ways. They will learn how to use technology, specifically how to view and use my site. This will affect the way they can get things done by making it more convenient for them to finish an assignment or work on something I have posted on my site. I have never made a site or used much technology other than writing papers or researching information online. This will change my schema by changing how I use technology, especially this type. This will change the way I will be as a teacher by making it easier and more convenient for my students to miss a class or find what they need by looking on my site. This will also help those that are confused by explaining what needs to be done by a certain due date. I will post the assignments on my site which will allow my students to work anywhere on their homework. My site is more of a one-person job, however if they have any questions they can collaborate with other classmates and get it done.

Knowing this information will help me to be a better teacher by understanding and knowing how to create a site for my own future classroom. It will help me by making teaching seem a little easier. As a colleague, knowing this information, I can help those teachers that like the idea and help them to create their own classroom site. It will also help by integrating my information with my colleagues. The type of collaboration developed by using Google Sites will benefit us as teachers as well as a department. We will be on the same page and will understand the mistakes and changes needed to be made. I am excited to get started in my teaching career and am happy I have the technology to help me become a better teacher.

Video Reflection
Mr. Robinson stated a few good points on creativity and the importance it has in schools. For me as a student now, what he said really does include me. He mentioned we do not develop creativity but we grow out of it. As a student, I have seen myself focus more on getting my homework done and doing it the correct way that I worry if I did it different from anyone else. As a teacher, I do not want my students to feel the same way I sometimes do. I think it is important to encourage children to use creativity. Mr. Robinson's lecture was pointing out we do not need to get kids interested but rather help them pursue their own dreams and goals to live up to their potential. Creative people are not valued and we need to change that. He states three types of intelligences, which match up close to Gardner's multiple intelligences, and those are, intelligence is diverse, dynamic, and distinct. Discovering your talents comes from knowing your intelligence and using it. As a teacher, I think this is important to teach and have my students act upon it. We need to be open minded as teachers and accept all ideas!

Blog #2 Google Part 1

WHAT?

This week we have learned about Google (docs, calendar, presentations, iGoogle, and spreadsheets). We are to create a welcome letter in Google docs, create a classroom rules presentation in Google presentations, and create a calendar.

SO WHAT?

Wow, I never knew Google had so much to offer. As a student, teacher, and colleague, this is valuable because it allows me to work with other group members or faculty without having to call them and try to figure out what they are saying. I really like how you can add images as well as drawing your own. I have ran into problems in the past where another student I was working with did not have word, so we struggled trying to put our presentation together. This was nice because we each had all the equipment necessary. The calendar was another one of my favorite features because it is so user friendly and I can get reminders from email or text.

I believe we are doing this because it alleviates stress by being user friendly as well as convenient. We will never lose the documents and presentations we create because it is saved online. This applies to me by helping me be more organized as well as helps me to not be afraid of technology. Google means freedom from stress and worry. Google means working with others and being convenient. Google means to my colleagues just about the same as it does to me. It means the ability to work and collaborate with anyone anywhere.

NOW WHAT?

Technology is the future for my students as well as for our country. Google will definitely play a big part in their learning. This new information about Google will change my schema by using it more frequently. I have realized it is easy to use and available all the time. This changes the type of teacher I will be by using technology more in my future classrooms. I will have my students work with Google and use all the applications. The types of assignments I will use are similar to the kind we do in this class. I can have them work with another person or group on a research paper. I can have my students make a presentation to show the class what they learned. I like this because I have the capability of seeing who does the work.

This will help me become a better teacher by using things their interested in which is technology. Every student enjoys working with a computer, whether it's playing or researching and this allows me to stay in tune with my students' needs as well as successes. As a colleague, this helps me to work better with others. Teachers are busy and do not always have time for sit down discussions. Google allows me to accomplish my tasks by working and communicating with my colleagues on my time. This change will help teachers communicate better as well as share ideas. Visually we can see what it is we need to accomplish as well as get ideas and help. I can't wait to use this type of technology because I really believe it will help education grow not only as a department but also as a nation of teachers. We are able to communicate with those that are not around...and that does not only mean those in our school or state. It means everybody!

VIDEO REFLECTION

I really enjoyed President Obama's speech to American children on how we are what we learn. It affects me as a student in a number of ways but the most important in my opinion is the statement, students must take ownership and responsibility for their own education. He went on saying teachers, parents, and the government all take responsibility but none of that matters unless the students (me) fulfills my responsibilities. As a teacher, this is valuable information because it helps me teach my students that no one writes their destiny but you, and if you fail, let that teach you, not define you. I was always afraid to ask for help and having listened to this speech, I have realized asking for help is a strength. All of these key points will help me to become a better student, which in return will help me to become a better teacher.

Ideal Classroom Reflection

Describe your ideal classroom including the physical environment and the personality of your students, parents, and colleagues. What teaching techniques will you use? What content will you teach? What technology will you utilize? What class goals will you embrace? What do you hope to teach?

My ideal classroom would have around 15 students and would have a positive atmosphere. It would be a safe and comfortable environment for my students. My classroom would be welcoming and encouraging. My physical environment would be large and would portray happiness and success. My classroom would have pictures up all around the classroom and would have windows. I would have a section where I can display my students work. I plan to rearrange my desks in different layouts. This will allow my students to get use to change as well as help me control what my students are doing. The personality of my students would be happy and enthusiastic. They would have the desire to learn. They would include all! My parents would be very nice and easy to work with. My parents would also be very involved with my students schooling and their success. I would work closely with my colleagues and so their personalities would be easygoing and very good at working together. They would all portray excitement and happiness!

I plan to use different teaching techniques. I realize not every student learns the same way and so I would work with the different multiple intelligences and allow students to learn in their own way. My classroom would work a lot on collaborating with other students. I believe children learn best from each other. My classroom would also be an authentic, multi-level instruction room. I plan to teach real life content as well as the content assigned to teach, by the state curriculum.

I love technology and realize it is becoming very popular. My ideal classroom would have a smart board. I would have a class blog posting the assignments and when they are due. Our class blog would also include any important information my students and parents would need to know. In return, I would have them working with blogs and have them post any questions as well as post some assignments on there.

The goals my classroom would have would start with motivation and belief in themselves as well as others in the classroom. Another goal would be for them to reach for success and not to give up. Next is to treat each student with respect. Some more goals would include enjoyment and love for the subjects, increased skill, and to have good behavior. My goals would include some that I would like to see my classroom achieve, such as the goals mentioned above. They would also have other goals they as a class come up with.

I would hope to teach fourth grade students. This was one of my favorite grades when I was in elementary and I just think it is an important age. They also learn interesting content information that I think would be fun to teach. I would hope to teach this grade because they are at the age where they still want to learn and help but at the same time are discovering themselves. This would be what my ideal classroom would look like!
